But for some time now, my profile here has stated that I am involved in "Accounting." This is really pretty hilarious, if you think about it (if you have any idea how my brain completely freezes up when confronted with numbers). It also bugs me. It isn't true. I am not an accountant. Nor, frankly, do I want to be one. Nor do I even want people thinking I am one.
But when I try to change that little box to "Not Specified," and hit "Save," it just reverts back to accounting. Any hints? Anyone?

It does sound like a bug. The particular kind of bug that chooses the first entry from a list (Accounting starts with "Ac") rather than respect the null value that you wanted to save. So your options are choose a different industry or get in touch with tech support and wait.
I had the same problem for a while. It also said I lived in Afghanistan.
I finally had to specify and put "arts" or something like that.
Buy a calculator and call it good?

No. Wrong. The only proper way to reconcile this situation is that you must actually become an accountant.
