"Oh!" I said to the Milk Guy. "You have violets in your lawn!"
"Yeah," he confessed. "I just mow them down, though."
"Of course you do," I said. "But you still
have them."
Also, I took the photo of the nest in the forsythia, which is currently my profile photo, back when there was little to indicate that the plant was forsythia. Look at it now, though!

The whole violets thing seems like the beginning of a methaphor, a parable, or even one of those Zen Koans.
Maybe the violets stand for grace or all the other treasures that can't be beat down no matter how much we neglect them.
Or maybe I'm just thinking too much.
That's kind of what I felt like, although I hadn't really figured out what it was a metaphor FOR . . . so I just threw it out there to see if anyone would pick it up . . . and you did. Thanks! ;)
